Lotro Gold Making Guide
There are many ways to earn gold in Lotro. But before it gets complicated, lets go over the basics. Lotro money comes in copper, silver, and gold.
1 copper = 100 silver 1000 silver = 1 gold
Start Pinching Gold EarlyDon't go crazy at the auction house! This requies much willpower and self control. I know you need that next best item, but don't loose sight of your main goals! Have a plan of action. If you want that house that costs 1/7/15 gold or that pony that costs 4 gold then you better behave yourself at the auction house. Stick with that quested loot item and you'll have more to spend on that big item later.
Loot Everything for GoldIt sounds simple, but you might be surprised by how many people don't pick up the junk loot. All that junk that doesn't seem worth much, adds up to allot when put together. Take the time to make the extra trips to a vendor to sell all the junk items for gold. If you have to start tossing stuff out, be sure to toss out the least valuable stuff first.
Take a Gathering Profession for GoldThe Gathering professions are mining and foresting. You can do both of these if you train to become an explorer. Of the three professions, mining is often claimed to be the best gold maker. Foresting requires you to buy wax to treat your wood and often a stack of treated wood will sell for less than a stack of smelted ore. At the time of this writing the cheapest stack of 50 treated rowan is selling for 120 silver and a the cheapest stack of 50 bronze for 200 silver. But if you're deciding between mining and foresting, keep in mind that foresters can also boil leather as well as gather wood. Buying unboiled leather to boil for profit can make you a bit of silver, but I still don't think it's enough to make up the price difference between foresting and mining.
Keep in mind that if you do become an explorer and take up both mining and foresting then you can only track one thing at a time. But allot of times if you're tracking one thing then you'll stumble upon another. ;)
Crafting for GoldCrafting is not going to be very profitable right away. It actually costs allot of gold to build up your crafting profession. It costs gold to buy the recipes and if you don't have the gathering profession needed to make the crafted items, then it costs you even more.
But many people look at crafting as a sound investment that pays off later down the road.
Lets look at making red dye for example to earn gold. To make red dye you would need to spend all that gold and time working your way up to the Artisan level. You would have to buy the recipe which costs around 320 silver on the Vilya server. You would have to buy the rare component for the dye, the Neekerbreeker Ichor which costs 130 silver each. But in the long run you could make the money back that you spent, plus some. One pot of dye sells for around 266 silver. So you see that it would be worth it to invest in learning how to make red dye.
It is often recomended that you wait until higher levels when you have more gold saved up from playing to invest in a crafting profession.
Auction House for Gold
If you have the patience you can keep a constant eye out for bargains, buy them up and resell them. Sometimes people will put stuff up dirt cheap for a quick sale. If you are quick and constantly monitoring the auction house you can make gold from other people's impatience. - always put a Buy It Now on items you're selling - people don't like to wait
- never start your auction at the auction house minimum bid - it takes too many bids to move the price up. People don't like to bid large amounts because they think bidding in small increments will get them a better deal. I like to set the minimum bid at a little bit below what I think the item is worth then put a Buy It Now for over what it's worth.
- always look to see if what you're selling is already up - if there are too many just wait it out. If you just have to put it up don't undercut the competition.and sell yourself short! Most of the time you are better off not undercutting because it lowers the prices. Be patient. Your item will sell eventually.
- don't horde! Stop yourself from hanging onto items. If you get too many of them then when it comes time to sell you'll flood the auction house and the price will fall.
- spcialize and keep track of a market - There are allot of items in lotro and it would take allot of time and experience to know what everything is worth. Select one area you enjoy and focus on that. After a while you'll know how much you can sell and for what price.

Just to add to it a little... As stated, avoid buying anything at low levels. Quested gear will be better for you since you will very quickly outgrow anything you purchase. Then you are stuck vendoring it back for a silver or 2.
Also as for the gathering professions, YES!!! I mad my hunter an explorer. At level 45, I can go through many areas and gather up to dwarf-iron ore and not aggro mobs. In about 2 hours of gathering, I can smelt enough westernesse steel to creat a full stack. On Landroval, I can almost always get a minimum of 2 gold for a stack. For 2 hours worth of work, it will pay off. Also note, stacks of ore sell better than ingots. Since 'most' people will buy the ore to skill themselves up in crafting without having to do the grunt work. Once you get into higher level ores/ingots, I personally feel the ingots smelted with coal to create steel sells far better than ore/ingots alone. Good luck!
